Jhony Onist – Writer (The Writer’s Block)
Introducing Jhony Onist, a provocative and compelling artist hailing from Buffalo, NY. Walking the fine line between culturally influencing hip-hop and gritty street rap, he delicately paints a picture of his world with verbiage and colorful imagery. Listening to his music, you can hear the likes of his influences, the clever wordplay of Wu-Tang, but with the powerful thought-provoking bars of Jay-Z, the storytelling capability of Nas, and the gritty and grimy bars of Mobb Deep. When he isn’t preaching from the ghetto’s pulpit, he proves himself versatile, crafting love songs reminiscent of LL Cool J.
Born in Manhattan and raised in the cold streets of Buffalo NY, Jhony Onist made his way from a boy to a man. After graduating high school, he was forced to navigate the complexities of the inner city and turned to ways of making fast money. Realizing this life wasn’t what he wanted for himself, he became a cook and moved up the ladder to a Sous Chef. Now working as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the City of Buffalo, he still pursues his dream of being a recording artist.
Some of Jhony Onist’s most notable accomplishments are two major placements on DJ Unknown’s “Day After Tomorrow” mixtape, another placement on DJ Bandana Black’s “Some Roses are Taken” mixtape, live performances at MTM’s Mental Health Awareness Showcase and 716 Selfies, performing his single with Balistic Man, “Lie to You” as well as being nominated for best new artist of the year at the FIRST ANNUAL 716 MUSIC AWARDS, and performing at the MUSIC IS ART FESTIVAL ! Add a handful of high profile cameos and a role in SLAPPED STRAIGHT the Movie, Jhony Onist shows no signs of slowing down. He has released his second single with Streets Soprano (of BSF – Black Soprano Family) called “Be Onist,” and is soon to release a third single off his new album with DRUM WORK / BSF affiliate Jae Skeese while putting the final touches on his soon-to-be released EP. In fairs well to mention that he also gas started his own label and recording studio called, Onist Music Group, aka O.M.G., where he records and mixes his own music.
