Tate McRae Chats with Jasmine

Jasmine Reed The Author: What obstacles do young entrepreneurs face?

Tate McRae: The biggest obstacle I face is time! There are so many things I want to spend my time on. I attend a Professional Ballet School, so have daily school and roughly 5-8 hours of dance a day. Then there is homework, vocal lessons and sleep!

Jasmine Reed The Author: What is it like being #1 on The USA iTunes Singer Songwriter chart?

Tate McRae: It is crazy! It feels quite surreal. I wrote the song for my YouTube Channel in October. It was a last minute song I wrote because my dance video did not turn out. It ended up getting about 6 million views so I had it recorded professionally! I really cannot believe people are actually listening to it. It’s a dream come true! I am so thankful to everyone who is sharing it and listening to it.

Jasmine Reed The Author: How do you prepare for your dance videos?

Tate McRae: It depends… Sometimes I just improv in the studio after class and see if I can get any good footage out of it. Other times I map it all out with a concept and story board, choreography and how I want it to visually look! In some videos I do the choreography and in others I use solos that have been set on me or have someone choreograph it. Sometimes the things I least prepare for end up being the most authentic.

Jasmine Reed The Author: Any advice to new young entrepreneurs?

Tate McRae: Dream big and keep dreaming! Remember who you are and always work hard. There is no finish line. Be kind to everyone and support all the artists around you. Keep learning and pushing yourself.

Jasmine Reed The Author: What are your goals for this year?

Tate McRae: I have so many goals this year! Of course, I want to keep growing as an artist. For my dance, this means lots of work in the studio training and many hours choreographing and rehearsing. For singing it means training and writing and trying to work with as many people as I can. I always want to push myself as much as I can. Who knows what kind of doors will open… but I am excited for 2018!
