The Opera House

The Opera House is a unique and intimate venue, with a 950 person capacity, still holding all the charm of its original 1900’s vaudeville theatre architecture. For the past 28 years this landmark facility in Toronto’s downtown core has been host to some of the biggest, original and unique concert & special events in the Riverside Area.  Concerts from the legendary grunge band Nirvana, Iconic Metallica,  superstar Eminem have graced the stage for some of the most memorable special events. Not limited to concerts, the venue has hosted Charity Fundraisers, Weddings, Comedy Shows,  Movie Launches and has been featured in many tv specials, commercials, feature films and live video shoots.

The Opera House boasts 12,000 square feet with spectacular views from the balcony. Over the original stage is a gorgeous 35-foot proscenium arch and all modern lighting and sound equipment to compliment any performance. Seating can be arranged as general admission; theatre or cabaret style with fully licensed bar and catering facilities.

120 Diner

120 Diner is a live music and comedy venue in downtown Toronto. Started by Canada’s first trans woman comedian Mandy Goodhandy and multidisciplinary artist Todd Klinck, 120 Diner features live music (mostly jazz) 6 nights a week, as well as regular comedy shows.

The Gladstone Hotel

The Gladstone Hotel is Toronto’s oldest continually operating hotel—and a space local artists call home. Identifying as an art hotel and LGBT hub since 2005, when local artists came together to transform the original 19th century hotel rooms into 37 unique rooms/functional art installation spaces, the Gladstone knows that being an art hotel means more than hanging a few paintings. Inspired by the building’s history, exposed brick walls, high ceilings, huge Victorian windows, and longstanding neighbourhood connections to Toronto’s arts and culture scene, the Gladstone Hotel created an internationally recognized art venue that defies traditional expectations and fosters design and creativity.

The Linsmore Tavern

The Linsmore Tavern is one of the last of the old school tavern’s and hotels in the city of Toronto. The Linsmore Hotel was established on December 7th, 1934, the same year the Province of Ontario started licencing saloons.  Max Bloom was the first owner, and his nephew, Lou Campul, managed both the saloon and the hotel above it, while he and his wife brought up their 5 children on the second floor. In those early decades, Danforth Avenue, or the King’s Highway #5, was a main throughway for travellers coming west into the City of Toronto. The Linsmore Hotel catered to those visitors  who needed a room for the night. A ladies and escorts room was accessed through the side entrance on Linsmore Ave. In those days, there were no windows to look into at The Linsmore because the customers didn’t want the neighbourhood knowing who was drinking inside. Trays of 5 cent drafts in 6 ounce glasses were dropped at table after table. Following the pub tradition of the British Isles, the Linsmore was the social hub for it’s immediate neighbourhood.

The ownership of the Linsmore changed in 1982, when 31 year old Basil Mangano bought the place from Max Bloom. He still owns the Linsmore Tavern to this day. It is now one of the last remaining original hotel/taverns in Toronto.  There is a long history behind the Linsmore Tavern, and it seems like everyone has a story to tell about the place.

The bar and restaurant industry changed drastically over the years and the Linsmore Tavern had to evolve with these changes. Basil’s son Ryan came in to manage in 2010 and through trial and error, eventually transformed the Linsmore Tavern into a live music venue. Now the Linsmore Tavern hosts live music 5 to 7 days out of the week and book over 350 bands a year! With a unique, old-school tavern vibe, the Linsmore Tavern is an intimate venue with a great atmosphere and affordable prices! Located right beside the Greenwood Subway Station on 1298 Danforth Ave, the Linsmore Tavern is a place to see a big name in an intimate and fun setting!

WAX Recording Studios

WAX Recording Studios World-Famous Musicians Record in Canadian Music Producer’s Living Room!

London UK — In a music industry rocked by numerous classic recording studio closures, famous bands and some of the worlds most respected musicians are now making their way to a very special music recording studio in Dalston where a timeless Motown DIY ethos meets trendy East London mainstream gentrification.

From its modest birthplace in a converted carriage workshop, WAX has become host to an impressive list of bands and musicians all keen to find out what the buzz is about. WAX client highlight includes: Omar Lye-Fook MBE,  Andrew Roachford (Epic), Eneeks (Toyko Dawn), Rejjie Snow (Ninja Tune), Rumours, Xantone Blacq (Nigel Kennedy, Laura Mvula), Max Grunhard (Prince, Ibibio Sound Machine), James Sayer (BBC /Ruen Brothers),  Paul Jackson(Herbie Hancock’s Head Hunters),  Antonio Sanchez (Pat Metheny Trio), Ian Thomas (Michael Jackson, Dire Straits, Bob Dylan), Swing Out Sister , Kelli Leigh (Adelle, Duke Dumont), Jimmy Norden (Alice Russell, Beth Rowley), Max Cliverd (Tom Odell), Thomas Jules (Rudimental, Prof. Green), Kwabs (Atlantic) plus hundreds of talented independent artists.

Robert Strauss, the Canadian music producer set up the studio sometime in 2010 in his living room, an ex-squat just off Brick lane. Strauss explains: “Having worked as a music producer in Toronto for many years, when I came to London I had all this equipment and no place to put it, so I just set it up in my living room, made an arrangement with the neighbours and we made music history for about 3 years. As rents in Shoreditch started to skyrocket, I was forced to relocate and moved 3 times, equally to similar and unique spaces.

“I work in all musical genres, and for me it’s about energy and people,” stresses Strauss. “I have had the honor and joy of working in so many genres. It’s all one music, it’s all one people. [It’s] a true privilege to be included in so many creative circles, and one that I wouldn’t trade for the world.”

Robert Strauss has more than 20 years’ experience in the music and entertainment business, and his work is respected by DJs, radio presenters, and avid music fans from all over the world. Strauss has worked as an artist-musician, producer, and sound engineer, and he has also worked to produce scores for films and TV shows.

Robert continues: “We realized there we’re literally only a handful of studios to record live bands left in London, and thought taking it back to the basics just like they did back in the house of Motown was a way to get things moving in the industry again,”

“Most people record on their laptops today one at a time using a mouse and a pair of headphones, but I wanted WAX Recording Studios to provide a place where musicians and creative minded people are all able to get together and play in same room, reconnecting them with the roots of where the recorded industry started.” Make sure you check out their website to learn more and see what they have to offer!
